Organised by Solusisters under women empowerment project with support from Roots for Life and Social work Institute

The first ever, Solu food festival is going to happen in Lalitpur Raithane restaurant on November 9 and 10, 2024. It is a food festival, by the solu sisters and for the solu sisters.

Solusisters:

Solu sisters is a bond that the women from solukhumbu share with one another. United for the empowerment of women from solukhumbu, solu sisters are doing everything they can to help one another have a better day tomorrow.
For 9 years now, solu sisters are supported and working with Roots for life and Social work institute to empower themselves with organic farming, organic certification, marketing and collective thinking.

Our milestone:

2017: Establishment of cooperative
2018: Starting of organic farming initiation and establishment of model farms

2019: Starting organic certification process

2022: Getting organic certification certificate through PGS

2022 and onwards: Collective marketing of products for the welfare of the community.

The food festival:

Solu has its own tradition of food, own spice and own recipe. The taste of Himalayas can be different than elsewhere. We have been doing food festival every year in solu itself. And this time, we want to share our taste with all of you. It’s a two day event where solu sister themselves will prepare the food using all organic ingredients and recipe. We will all share the stories from solukhumbu together and dine together.

Our Organic certification:
Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) is locally focused quality assurance systems. They certify producers based on active participation of stakeholders and are built on a foundation of trust, social networks and knowledge exchange. This is a certification process which is managed completely by a local community without any external interference. The standards of organic production and the working protocol are designed based on the local context.

Our PGS name is Sagarmatha PGS and we are currently working in 4 different village viz. Chyangsar, Kunikhop, Merangding and Ghunsa of Solududhkunda Municipality.
All together we are 260 women working for the betterment of the community.
